Engaging teachers in dialogue about "good" teaching and learning

Issue Addressed:

Engaging teachers in dialogue about "good" teaching and learning

Solution:

Teachers are introduced to the elements of effective instruction through the HRI classroom protocol. They view videos of students and teachers engaged in teaching and learning. They use the elements to discuss the video. This leads into very rich dialogue about what they understand about the professional standards. Issues of content are also addressed.

Unresolved Issues:

The effective use of the HRI instrument is dependent on teachers having basic knowledge of the components of reformed mathematics. It is not effective for teachers who are uninformed if they make up the majority of the group.
