  New!

We must find a way to sustain the new questioning...

Issue Addressed:

Questions asked by classroom teachers determine not only "what" students will learn, but "who" will learn "how much". What professional development opportunities are available to enable teachers to become writers and askers of effective questions?

Solution:

AEL (Appalachian Educational Laboratory) conducts a QUILT (Questioning and Understanding to Promote Learning and Thinking) Workshop each summer during the third week of June in Lexington, Kentucky. It is an intensive week of training for the trainer (excellent professional development for lead teachers) Web site can be accessed at http://www.ael.org/rel/quilt or contact Jackie Walsh at walshja@aol.com Jackie's mailing address is 1510 Gilmer Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama 36104 and her phone number is 334-832-4222. It is one of the best professional development experiences I have had.

Unresolved Issues:

We must find a way to sustain the new questioning skills along with the new curriculum when the funding is gone.
