commenting on student work
|
I'm Tom McDougal. I teach math at Best Practice High School in Chicago, using IMP Year 2. So I'm associated with CSIMP, the Chicago School Mathematics Improvement Project.
As a teacher, I want to know what to do with student work. I read the article about formative assessment. You mentioned a study comparing the results of giving a grade, grade+comments, and just comments. The comments alone resulted in higher student achievement.
So here I am with a large stack of student work waiting to be graded or processed somehow. I'm wondering what to do with it. Can you be any more precise about the context of the study? What kinds of student work? (Math? Writing?) What kinds of comments?
Thanks.
