high accountability

Jerry addresses the issue of how California's SAT-9 has focused attention on language arts and mathematics and away from science. This is an interesting example of how one reform (standards tied to accountability measures) can hinder another (science reform). Besides shifting focus away from science, it is possible that the emphasis on high accountability may also be driving the focus away from inquiry, which by its nature takes classroom time to collect, analyze and reflect on data. Perhaps to get broad discussion going, it would be great if **everyone** post an introduction (including all of you who requested digest). How do you see the emphasis on accountability affecting the vision of your LSC? I heard both major candidates speak about testing, testing, testing, to improve the educational system. Have you felt that State tests have enabled, or complicated your vision within your LSC? I look forward to hearing from you. --Joni
