INQUIRY INTO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Audience:

  • Science Teacher Leaders for Full Option Science System
  • Mathematics Teacher Leaders for Investigation in Number Data and Space
  • K-2 Mathematics Leaders continuing work with Kathy Richardson
  • School Team Leaders from selected science schools
  • CCSD Mathematics Audit Team

Purpose for Institute:

  • enhancing leadership capacity of experienced Teacher leaders and Teachers on Special Assignment
  • bringing new teacher leaders into the mentorship program
  • redesigning workshop series for Standards based Materials
  • continuing in depth development of K 2 teacher leaders, follow up with Kathy Richardson
  • enhancing K 2 Mini Conference plan
  • developing K 2 Math Talk school based sessions
  • implementing science notebooks/science as the core at school sites
  • beginning to utilize Horizon Protocol to examine professional development design, implementation, and leadership
  • enhancing K 12 articulation

Note: In-depth teacher leadership development continues during the Institute following 24 hours of professional development for K-2 teacher leaders during January, February, and March, 1998

Format for Standards-based Materials Sessions

  • Grade level session facilitated by Teacher on Special Assignment

  • In-depth study of one to three teacher manuals as related to implementation with students and workshop sessions for teachers:

    • key content ideas
    • pedagogy of professional development
    • questioning
    • nature of discourse
    • timing and strategies for design and implementation of effective professional development
    • reflection
    • notebooks (use by participants during workshop sessions)

  • Reformat syllabus for each Standards-based Materials session

  • Consultant for mathematics sessions: Rebecca Corwin
