Asset Teacher Enhancement Program

How long do your workshops last?

They vary from 1/2 day to a week. The schedule I submitted was for a week.

How many teachers do you involve in your workshops?

It usually depends. We have given workshops for 4 people to 100. The schedule you received was for a maximum of 24 teachers due to room accomodations and our goal of developing teacher leaders in the area of professional development design and the use of the process of inquiry.

What are your major goals for your workshops in terms of content and Pedagogy?

Our goals are to support elementary teachers in the use of the curriculum materials published by Carolina Biological Supply Company, (Science and Technology for Children, STC), Delta Ed.(Full Option Science Services, FOSS) and Insights. Therefore, we teach them how to use these materials and then support their content knowledge and background knowledge around the specific modules they teach. We also support their conceptual understanding of going beyond these "kits" by taking subtle steps towards using the inquiry process. The schedule you received is the actual week long outline of our approach towards giving teachers a personal inquiry experience.

Are you offering professional development on specific curricula that you are hoping will be used in the classroom? If so, which curricula are you using?

Answer is included above.

Are you using specific professional develoment materials?

Those that we design by focus groups of teachers, the above curriculum materials and those shared with us by the Exploratorium and our collegial partner projects.
