description: The Glenn Commission is a U.S. Department of Education commission on improving the quality of teaching in the U.S. Many of you may find this information relevant to your work, particularly in terms of placing your LSC within a broader national policy context. An excerpt from the U.S. Department of Education's website about the commission is included below. When you go to this website, we also recommend that you look at the related press release about the commission.

"U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley recently announced a National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century. This Commission is part of America Counts, the Department's mathematics initiative. The Commission will be chaired by former U.S. Senator and astronaut John Glenn and will create an action strategy aimed at improving the quality of teaching in mathematics and science classes nationwide."
