Questioning
|
I am the project director for TUSD's DESERT Project (K-8 science). In the early stages of our project we concentrated developing a dialogue amoung teachers focused on understanding and implementing our CORE science programs. We are just beginning to aks teachers to reflect on their assessment practices, what audiences these serve and more specifically what they tell us about student learning. The timing of this LSC NET discussion is critical for us as we plan our first assessment conference for this summer. We are indebted to Paul for raising so many interesting issues for our project leaders with regard to formative assessment. I was intrigued by his comments at the PI meeting and in the Blackk Box article about effective questions and dialogue. I am curious to know if any projects have designed specific structures for teachers to develop questions in a collaborative context. How did you set these up(protocols?), how often did the groups meet?, and how did they "test" and refine the questions they developed? How do teachers report and get feedback about the questioning and dialogues they engage in with the students in their classrooms?
