Algebra for All -- Not with Today's Textbooks, Says AAAS

author: Project 2061
description: "The majority of textbooks used for algebra ... have some potential to help students learn, but they also have serious weaknesses," begins this press release from Project 2061 that summarizes the group's findings from their recent study of algebra textbooks. In the textbook evaluation, which was released in April, seven of the twelve textbooks studied were "adequate," none was rated highly, and five were "rated so inadequate that they lack potential for student learning." This interesting press release also includes links to the evaluation results for individual books and the instructional criteria used to evaluate the textbooks.
