What are the barriers you are encountering in helping teachers...

Reply 1:

Just a few barriers I can think of now. 1)Using the materials cover to cover, as opposed to just picking and choosing. 2)Grading the work seems to be a huge barrier, although it becomes less of an issue as teachers work through materials. 3)Standardized testing 4)We use "Investigations" and the amount of materials to be prepared can be overwhelming, especially in primary grades. I'm sure there are others, but those seem to be our biggest ones!

The biggest barrier we have encountered is teachers' confidence in the curriculum to do everything they think they should do. Poorly designed high stakes testing in our district particularly works to derail teacher confidence in standards-based curriculum. Even though they recognize the value of the curriculum to their students, they are fearful of not preparing their students to perform in the traditional skill areas that new curriculum de-emphasizes.
