I'm trying to get some background on the lsc's ......

Reply 1:

The Local Systemic Change projects was once called "Local Systemic Initiative" The name was changed to avoid confusion with the other systemic initiatives which are funded out of the Division of Educational Systemic reform i.e. SSI, USI etc. The predecessor was really the 'regular' Teacher Enhancement projects where we funded PD programs for individual teachers. It was decided with LSC's that the unit of change would be the "school" . And that the main components of projects would be that the teacher PD would be aligned with instructional materials and we wanted to reach ALL teachers not just the volunteers etc. The first projects were funded in FY' 94 they are mainly the Cohort I projects.
