E=MC2 Summer Workshop Information

Sona Polakowski, Project Director, describes her project:

"Our Congressman Rush Holt, stated, "E=MC2 is a wonderful program that combines two of my legislative priorities in emphasizing math and science in our schools and ensuring our teachers have the best possible training for the classroom," said Rep. Holt. "E=MC2 has proven very successful since its inception. I am pleased that this grant will further their goals."

The new grant provided the continuation of the training of K-6 teachers in "Inquiry, Pedagogy, Assessment and Technology." The new grant established an institute on content training for Earth, Physical and Life Sciences using university scientists, corporate scientists and teachers from the three local school districts. The grant also allowed E=MC2 to expand to middle school grades in Ewing, Lawrence and West Windsor-Plainsboro, as well as outreach to other surrounding school districts by providing scholarships to attend existing programs."

SUMMER WORKSHOPS:

We have trained over 800 plus teachers since the inception of the grant and trained 158 teachers for the 2001-2002 school year. A teacher can receive 114 hours of professional development in Science with our program. Also, all of our workshops, Institutes, and training stress strategies and except for Content, they can be used in other subject areas. We are using STC, FOSS, and some Insights.

Visit our project Web site to see a slide show that shows pictures of teachers at our Institutes: www.inventionfactory.com/emc2 and click the following link to read a recent newsclipping written about the project.

Listed below are brief descriptions and links to more information about the 3 institutes that are the components of the project's professional development program.
