Educators Meet To Learn Theory And Practice In Science Education

Calexico Chronicle, 8/27/1998

This article discusses a 3-day training program that brought together Imperial Valley educators and students and teacher preparation faculty from San Diego State University. "One of the goals of this training was to introduce participants to the organization of the student teacher program. Another was to see how good science instruction, based on inquiry and critical pedagogy could be fostered by both student teachers and their cooperating teachers in schools. ... The training began with an overview of SDSU's Teacher Education program and its student teaching component. [Olga] Amaral asked participants to review the role that each participant plays during this important part of teacher preparation. ... A definition of quality instruction followed along with the opportunity to view classrooms via video presentations where science was being studied. Participants then discussed strengths and weaknesses they found in each lesson."
