Joni and all,

The WV Handle on Science has run into a communications
problem in two areas.

One, news letters are sent out with upcoming important information to a
lead teacher in each school. The lead teacher in turn is to report and
gathere information if necessary from fellow teachers in his or her
school. Some of the time the lead teacher does not share the info for
numerous reasons like too busy at that time and forgets. Most of the
lead teachers(the person who is the liason in each school and given a
modest stipend) do a great job. We have group meetings about twice a
year to go over any problems and to brainstorm for ways to improve the
communication. There is also a list serve to teachers and lead
teachers.

The big problem everyone is so busy that letters don't get read or
e-mail goes unread until after deadlines are past. Then we have to
follow up to get needed information. How do we get everyone to read
mail and act on it in a timely fashion is still a problem. Actually
this has improved over the last year but there must be some way of
getting professionals to act timely.

Second big problem is getting the principals to give information out.
They have the same problems as lead teachers but they often just neglect
to share needed information. Often this causes us a problem because
they are not helpful.
