I'm Michael Klentschy the PI of the Valle Imperial Project in Science,
NSF LSC in a rural area of Southeastern California serving 14 school
districts in this county. For the last four years in this project and
for eight years prior to this in the Pasadena, CA project I have been
studying the use of student notebooks, performance tasks and embedded
assessments. Recently, our project has also been studying the use of
concept mapping as another means of assessment.

At this time we have included issues of student assessment in all levels
of our professional development program and collaborative masters
program with San Diego State University.
