Testing Our Children: A Report Card on State Assessment Systems

author: FairTest
description: This report from FairTest in Cambridge, MA, looks at how well each state's assessment systems live up to the promise of supporting high standards. The report discusses the evaluation criteria FairTest used, which were based on the National Forum on Assessment's 1995 "Principles and Indicators for Student Assessment Systems," and goes on to examine each state's system and practices in-depth. The report concludes that "two-thirds of state K-12 student assessment systems do not reach even the middle level of system quality."
