Written Discourse in Scientific Communities: A Conversation with Scientists about their Writing and about Becoming a Writer

author: Larry D. Yore, Marilyn K. Florence, Terry W. Pearson, Andrew J. Weaver
description: From the abstract: "This paper reports on a follow-up case study of two scientists involved in earlier studies - a survey of university scientists and engineers and a multiple-case study of research groups in biochemistry and earth and ocean sciences. This case study documents the scientists' backgrounds, social relevance of and personal commitment to their research; views of science; beliefs about and practices involving reading and writing, experiential and cultural influences, the construction of knowledge and arguments, and the metacognition involved in science inquiry and science writing; and their reluctance to use language associated with their views of science."
