subject: curr.materials don't equal inquiry
Good to hear from you, Bob Box. Your comment re all 25 publishers claim
alignment to MCTM standards reminds me of discovery we made in piloting
an NSF-funded middle school math curriculum, Connected Math, which is
now part of our systemic change grant. After two years of field
testing, we discovered that many teachers thought they were implementing
the curriculum by using the materials, which did not always mean the
materials were being used to support student inquiry. We've had to
focus much more on regular reunions at which teachers view videos and
discuss how to maintain tasks at a high cognitive level.
