Teaching to the Test – The Good, the Bad, and Who’s Responsible

author: Nancy Kober
description: This report addresses what "teaching to the test" is, how often it goes on, and whether it is acceptable in any form. As the push for states to adopt high-stakes tests continues to grow – especially now with the passage of the "No Child Left Behind Act" – these issues must be addressed by policy makers and school leaders. "The real fault for inappropriate forms of "teaching to the test" lies not so much with teachers, but with state and national policymakers. These leaders have created accountability systems centered on higher test scores, with little regard for how these scores are attained."
